A tech MBA programme for undergraduate (UG) students is about to be launched by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. This programme would be available for all the engineering students. Two degrees will be awarded by the students taking tech MBA programme- they are Engineering UG degree (B. Tech.) and master’s degree in Management (MBA). As a part of the Five-Year Inter-Disciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) programmes, this programme is conceptualised by the Department of Management Studies (DOMS), IIT Madras. The programme is being introduced by the Institute from the Academic Year 2019-20 and it is supposed to have intake of 25-30 students. The foundational tech MBA courses will be offered by the Department of Management Studies during the third and fourth years of all UG programs. CGPA, personal interview and/or departmental aptitude test is known to be the eligibility criteria for taking the courses in the fifth year.
The undergraduate students, through this IDDD programme will be enabled to utilise the fifth year of the course and get specialised in the newly formulated curriculum that integrate and synergize technology and management disciplines. The learning outcomes, pedagogy and curriculum design is the specificity of Tech MBA which aims to combine the academic rigour with the practices from the organisational trenches. Post the due analysis of the emerging talent needs of the global industries, the Department of Management Studies at IIT Madras formulated the tech MBA programme.
The programme focuses at imparting business acumen to engineering students while simultaneously inculcating management mindset for tackling complex decision-making issues and shaping technology-driven organisational transformation. The curriculum is a blend of courses from business functions, transformation technologies and performance analytics.
The programme help students prepare for future career options Thought Leaders in consultancies or Management Innovators in industries. It would enable the students to participate in the academic exchange programmes with the world-renowned universities as well.
