Drawbacks of Technology in Education

In a world where technology has surpassed humanity, it is playing an important role in education as well. However, just like every coin has a flip side, technology in education has its drawbacks too. Let’s take a look at some of them.

Immense Expenditures

In today’s era, machines like computers have substituted the use of paper with its hi-tech features and schools and colleges require a huge sum of money to maintain, which can otherwise be spent to buy necessary resources. One has to also spend thousands of dollars to update the out-dated software which are incompatible with present technology.

Insufficient Methods of Teaching

Teachers are not equally trained in the proper implementation of advancements in mechanization. Instead of gaining knowledge from it, learners are just using the technology without any purpose, well a majority of them. Using applied science to achieve an education in the proper way is a good thing but to transform it into an active set of skills is a matter of time.

Creating Inefficient Learners

Complete reliability on computers is creating poor studying habits. For e.g., many students keep looking for tricks to solve mathematical problems online instead of solving them in a traditional way which actually helps them to gain in-depth knowledge of the subjects. Similarly, spell-checkers prevents them from learning the correct spelling.

Waste of Valuable Time

Technology is not error free, it comes with its own set of problems like server error and connectivity problems which take oodles of time to troubleshoot it, therefore, hindering the learning process which can sometimes be a matter of frustration both for the learners and the educators.
